Blueberries protect runners
Physiologists at Appalachian State University conducted a study in which runners were given a cup of blueberries for six weeks, while the other group was not given blueberries and both performed the same 2.5-hour running workout.
The results showed that runners and fitness runners who ate blueberries had more immune cells, less inflammation, and less oxidative damage to their bodies before and after running.
Researchers believe that the anthocyanins in blueberries can protect the body.
